Alligator Bay

Although not actually in Brittany, Alligator Bay lies a short distance from Mont St Michel in Beauvoir near to Normandy’s border with Ille et Vilaine.

Alligator Bay as it’s name suggests is an animal enclosure which specialises in reptiles. Around 10000m2 in size, the farm is home to around 1000 different creatures covering 100 different species of crocodiles, lizards, snakes, tortoises and of course alligators.

The buildings in which the animals are homed are very well designed with a variety of walkways in the alligator greenhouse guiding you through different climates and taking you on a journey to see around 200 crocodiles and alligators. The walkways allows you to get quite close to them which brings an extra degree of enjoyment for children and those iterated in these magical and yet scary creatures.

Within the dragon maze you will find a vast array of snakes and lizards numbering approximately 150 making it one of the best in Europe. Throughout the maze there are various viewing holes which allow you to see them at a different angle and often quite close up.

Finally you can visit the tortoise farm which is home to more than 300 tortoises of various sizes and species and unlike other animal parks you can even touch the giant tortoises.

Don’t forget to check out the feeding times on arrival as there’s nothing better than watching the animals eat their lunch!
